Galveston, Texas trip, Final Report and Pictures

Galveston, Texas Final Report We are flying back to El Paso, Texas tomorrow from Galveston, Texas. We started our trip by train from El Paso in a sleeper car, Sunset Limited on Monday and arrived in Galveston on Tuesday. On Wednesday we took a bus tour of Galveston and walked around. On Thursday we visited the Moody House. It is a terrific house that is 129 years old and is in almost perfect condition. Linda and I have viewed a number of old houses in our lives and this is the very best regarding condition and presentation. We had the benefit of listening to an audio presentation as we went from room to room told by a daughter of the family. It made the building come alive for us. This home is the possession of a very rich family from Galveston. In the afternoon we visited the railroad museum which is the largest in the United States. It is very nice and we enjoyed walking about in the nice air-conditioned rooms and also seeing the trains. Overall, this has been a good visit to Galveston. A few years ago, I had read a book promoting train travel. I had become enchanted with the thought of going on a train in the United States. That dream has left considering the conditions of the trip (cramped, difficulty sleeping). I am glad I took the trip and now have no illusion of what is involved. I think that Galveston is a nice resort town which has a long history and is definitely worth the visit. I am glad we made the trip.
