A Thailand Vacation (a poem by Gary Bingham) A trip away from responsibility Dominated by Buddhist Religion Culture dissembler to western culture Frees me from my own A huge release Tropical climate Features: playing golf (beautiful courses), playing bridge, cheap massages Golf requires a caddy Fun caddy services: holding a sun blocking umbrella, knowing where my golf ball is in a dense jungle environment, reading the break of a putt, cleaning the ball, complimenting well struck shots Services: inexpensive rapid transport, motorcycle taxis, baht buses Entertained by open bars walking by highly visible masses of people barely hanging on to bar stools while drinking large amounts of intoxicating beverages. Meeting interesting people from other countries, cultures. Listening to their stories. Enjoying the prospect of planning my next trip to Thailand

Prison Work (2nd poem) Having a second nature of compulsively locking doors Constantly being aware of not being compromised Being ethical in my behavior Make decisions based on the rules and regulations Emphasizing cleanliness versus crook catching Keep it simple regarding expectations of the employees I supervise Be concerned about safety of inmates and prison staff Maintain a thick skin from profanity directed at me Deal with supervisors that are less qualified Valuing the importance of being able to say “no” This is the best answer to inmate requests Be courageous in a dangerous environment Being less concerned regarding my personal safety Work on not suffering from a guilty conscious when having used force Having both a sadistic and masochistic needs and recognizing their value Being tolerant of experiencing physical pain and injury

Yesterday we went on a drive to Scenic Drive in El Paso. This has a spectacular view of El Paso and Juarez across the border. It was our big COVID trip for the week. Gary
